About

Hella Reasons to Smile is about smiles. About happiness. About humanity.  Hella Reasons to Smile began as a deeply personal photography project during the COVID-19 pandemic, titled "A Reason to Smile." In a time of uncertainty and isolation, I set out to capture the resilience of joy—photographing people smiling through their masks and sharing their reasons for holding onto positivity. The project became a testament to the power of human connection, proving that even in difficult times, a smile could be a source of strength, presence, and hope.

From that foundation, Hella Reasons to Smile grew into a broader movement, driven by the belief that a smile is more than just an expression—it’s energy. It’s a force that grounds us in gratitude, makes us more present, and spreads effortlessly from one person to another. I call this Smile Therapy—the idea that smiling is a form of emotional healing, a simple yet powerful tool to shift perspectives and spark connection.

Since its inception, this movement has taken shape in many ways. I created a photo book showcasing these captured moments, held workshops on storytelling and moving portraits, and debuted my work in a solo gallery exhibition. I’ve also taken Smile Therapy on the road, traveling to Paris Fashion Week to document what makes people smile in the world of fashion and to the Basketball Hall of Fame to capture the joy of legends as they stepped into their legacy. Each of these experiences embodies the energy of Hella Reasons to Smile—proving that wherever we go, joy is present, and a simple smile has the power to transform a moment.

This movement is a reflection of my journey as a photographer and storyteller, but more importantly, it’s an invitation to embrace the contagious, grounding, and uplifting power of a smile.
